Pet~Shui For Friday: Bake Your Puppies A Cake!

Jan 28, 2012 | Pet-Shui

these little boys LOVE cake!

Cooking brings us closer to the ones we love, and that applies to our furry friends as well!  This almond-butter cake takes about two minutes to prepare before baking, and my little dogs go nuts over it!  Its about as nutritious as basic dog treat, but, unlike those biscuits, you…and your guests… can eat it and truly enjoy it!  Rarely do the puppies get to this cake before humans have eaten half of it, straight from the often. Bonus: its gluten & grain free!

(*this is not a pix of my actual cake... but mine looks almost the same, just gooey in the center!!!)

Almond Butter Cake (aka, Puppy Cake)

  • 16 oz jar almond butter (salt free & creamy)
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 3/4 cup honey (or less if you are just feeding the dogs!)
  • 4 eggs (jumbo eggs are somehow better)

Preheat the oven to 350. Whip all the ingredients up in a big bowl until its smooth and ribbony.  Pour the batter into a 9″ cake pan, a Pyrex baking dish or even a small, square brownie pan.  Bake until the center starts to feel a bit firm and the entire cake seems solid and not “jiggly” like jello.  Depending on your oven and ingredients, this will take between 30-50 minutes. (*Lower the temp a bit and cover with foil if it is looking brown on top but not cooking inside.)

Waiting for their cake is one of the only times these guys sit even semi-patiently.

Let this cool before feeding to the dogs for about an hour covered in the refrigerator.    However, for the people who eat it, I sometimes make homemade apple or pear sauce and get it super cold then pour it on slices of the hot, gooey cake.

For the fur babies, this is a dog treat, not a meal so don’t try to feed them a whole cake (disaster!), just a sliver is already a lot!  xxDana
