Healthy Ritual Of The Week: Morning Warm Lemon Water!

Aug 8, 2012 | Food-Shui

Raise your hand if you have coffee or tea first thing in the morning.  My hand is raised! I have green tea before I do just about anything and I considered that to be the best thing ever for my body.  Until, that is, I was reminded this weekend of the lemon & warm water habit that is so simple yet effective in starting the day off the right way!

Yes, we are talking about a cup of warm water (can even be on the hot side, but not too hot) that is clean water with the juice of half a lemon (perferably organic) added. That is it!

Why the lemon water? First of all, you start the day with some actual hydration. The warm water and lemon is pretty much calorie-free.  Anecdotally, lemon and water is thought to promote weight loss and purify your system.

My friends truly rave about this habit, waking up early just to have time for a warm lemon water. It does help your digestive system and  the elimination of toxins!  Lemons are good for your gums, so that is a plus.  This always makes my throat feel better, especially when I have bad allergies.  And, its a beautiful little pause in the morning before rushing off to do something, squeezing an organic lemon wedge into a cup of hot water.

My second cup every day will be tea, but for now I am installing lemon water as the kick-start to the morning. If you try it, tell me if you dig it!  Its fun to know that something you are doing every day is healthy, but its more fun to know that it is resoundingly effective for YOU!  xoxo Dana

How about water with a teaspoon of cider vinegar instead of lemon juice?

I’ve done that before… but the lemon is MUCH better tasting in my opinion. 🙂

Barbara! I am so thrilled to hear this! And lemon & water is a great one! I do it before brushing my teeth so that I can get the lemon acid off just in case it affects teeth (not sure, but better safe than sorry!) And I am thrilled to have you here! Any time you have questions, just ask! xoxo Dana
