Feng Shui Q & A: Getting Your Career Unstuck

feng shui bagua map

A reader asked a great question about using feng shui to get “unstuck” in her career.  Her question was about applying the diagnostic bagua map (above) to her floorplan to see what was going on.

” Hi Dana, I’ve been thinking about asking this for a little bit and I hope you can help me.
I moved into a new house a little while ago and I am stumped on how to apply the bagua map to it.
I’m feeling some blockages in my career and would love to make some changes to move energy. The front door is in a weird spot and I haven’t been able to figure out how to make the map work with it.
Any advice you could provide would be sooo appreciated.
I tried to make the map as proportional as I could.
Right now I have been applying the bagua map with the money corner in the office and the love corner in the bedroom across from it but after that it gets pretty hard to figure out.”

My Answer:

Here is the basic floor plan of her house, so that we can talk about a few things to look for (its fuzzy but I will explain) :

Now, lets look at the above.  The reason the Career Area of her life is screwy is multi-fold.  First of all, while it looks like you should walk into the space in the direction of the blue arrow, you actually enter through the walkway to where the red arrow is and I have marked it with text.  So,  first #1: you walk in and you aren’t really in the space.  #2: This area is the “career” area (I’ve shadowed the rectangle of the space that correlates with career) but its a confusing area of the home.  (are you seeing the metaphor here?) #3: The office is in the wisdom area of the space which is great… but it also highlights lessons that can & should be learned and finally #4: The kitchen is the “main feature” of the career area so it needs to be well-utilized and balanced.

Ok, so to start, a quick fix for the entranceway that is general but should help is to put a Welcome mat outside your door that resembles your aesthetic and, inside the foyer/hallway put a piece of art, like a piece of framed typography or an artwork, that is bright and has an arrow or directionally, in its visual energy, points you down the hall and into the space.  Consider it an usher to take you into your home properly without feeling disoriented.  Also, super-clean the kitchen, use it often and, perhaps, add a plant or two there.

These are some basics to get you started. I could go on & on, but I don’t want to generalize and this should move you into a new frame of reference.

A floor plan alone tells the story of a house.  The decor adds additional layers of information.  Sensory cues add another layer. Personal energy & life force (chi) add yet another layer.  By understanding an feng shui’ing your space you get a depth of understanding of the complexity, beauty and wonder of our integrated world while also setting yourself up for an optimal experience in your life!

Oh well, the plant didn’t work, so I’ll be getting some bamboo tomorrow.. Just wondering, what other kind of shower curtain is there? Mine is plastic, I don’t think I’ve ever seen any other, and from what I hear I should change it? Thank you!
