What Is The First Thing You See When You Wake Up?

(I want to wake up to art like this Devon Sioui every day!)

The first thing you see when you wake up can set the tone for the day.

If you see cracks in walls, a mess, ex-lovers gifts, terrifying images (I’ve seen them in client’s bedrooms!), a bathroom or anything else that is draining or less-than-inspiring, it’s time to make a switch!

This is where- I feel- the whole feng shui notion of beds facing mirrors being very bad began. If you wake up and see your reflection, you can literally startle yourself awake.  That’s no way to start the day.

As for the the best things to see when you first wake up…you tell me! What do you see when you first wake up? Do you look forward to waking up?

I love this question.

It’s helped me to recognize the need to make important changes to start the day “my way.”

Also, as a side note, if you are waking up and hearing something awful (an annoying ring tone on your phone-alarm clock, terrible music on your alarm clock or anything else you don’t like to hear)… that also functions the same as “the first thing you see.”  It sets the tone for the day… so… change that tone!

Start the day with sensory imprints that are at the very least quite neutral… and… at best… totally inspiring!

Aim high for inspiration!

I’m lucky enough that it’s the rare occasion that I have to use an alarm clock. Good thing because they make me really cranky. The first thing I see every morning is a large, black and white photographic still from my favorite movie, “The Thin Man.” It’s a fun scene from Christmas morning. Nick is holding his new BB gun with his feet and trying to shoot out ornaments on the Christmas tree. (You can’t see this part in the photo…it just looks like he’s aiming into the distance.) Nora is glamorous as always in her new mink. Across from where his gun is pointing I have some circular, fan decals on the wall. While I’m laying in bed, it looks like he’s aiming at them. At first I wondered if the gun would be bad feng shui but it’s not menacing at all. Every time I see it I think to my favorite movie, favorite movie couple and the fun dialogue of that scene. On the dresser just underneath are beautiful, tall, glass candle holders with tall pillar candles and a rhinestone encrusted, mirror tray with my perfume and fresh flowers. It’s lovely and I’ve taken to calling this style “cheeky glamour.”

I see my sleeping pup next to me, while I’m gently awoken by my love. I’m lucky, I think.

(Thanks for featuring my work on your site once again! Truly flattered 🙂
