There is one simple way that I learned to move from total overwhelm to clear-headed & whipping through work.It is a habit that keeps your mind- and your desk- in check.
If you touch something, you deal with it.
Meaning, if you open an email, you deal with it. If you touch a piece of paper, you either file it, deal with it or toss it.
I used to open a bunch of emails and then go back to them later, thus exposing myself twice to stuff I didn’t always even want to see once! I used to move papers around and dealt with them when the stack was big enough. Now, I see what needs to be done, and it is done.
This isn’t 100% always possible (some projects require more to actually execute in full than a simple action) but you can stake a first step!
If you can find a way to adopt this very basic habit you will be surprised at all you can do in a short time, and how much more free time you have for yourself!
