Everyone- even people who seem outwardly content with the status quo around them- seems to wants to live their best life in some way. We are driven by desires in different ways- and the deepest desires tend to be the things that move us toward making our dreams into a reality.
To have a dream come true requires a leap from “this is just a dream” to “this is what I am creating” to “I expect this to happen” to “this is my life!” And in the gaps between all of these statements are filled with your passion and your creative innovation.
I sent this post out to my newsletter and I am sharing it here, which I almost never do, because it is so important to me to get this message across… bridging the gaps between “dream” – “create” – “expect” AND “experience.”
I am immensely grateful and humbled this year for the ability to get my message, my own vision and lots of ideas out to nearly a million people this year, it seems, somewhat astonishingly. Each and every thing I write, I photograph or post to share is something I have either happily discovered, experienced with clients, adopted into my own life or learned from a brilliant group of pasionate experts, many of whom have become dear friends.
I also eat up new knowledge daily and experiment with it like crazy, as I am convinced we always have so much more to know!
This year is ending with a sprint of super-thrilling opportunity and action, and to relax amidst all the work-stuff and fun-stuff, I’ve been indulging in my Amazon book ordering habit!
I’m a not-so-secret bookworm academic at heart 🙂
So, I’ve been taking a ton of detox baths and maybe even steeping too long (!) as I read through books like crazy, digging through a pile of science, quantum physics, art history and even ancient Buddhist texts.
In my pile of knowledge this month that sweeps pretty far and wide, a few very clear themes popped up– be it in science, art or even ancient Japan!
1. We all seem to want to be the best we can be.
Truly. Every cell in your body wants to be the best it can be. Consciously, you likely want you to be the best you can be. We desire the things we think will make us the best we can be in some way— even if we get them and realize that they don’t!
2. We all tend to seek direction in getting better.
Our brain gets direction from our consciousness (this is somewhat proven, though some scientists may dispute it!). Ancient civilizations used the skies as a compass to guide them. Wise men, saints and sages were consulted throughout history.
We all seek role models, mentors, teachers, guides and wisdom in some way to move us forward. Even those who are “their own master” tend to follow the guidance they get from “the universe” or another source. Or we call friends for advice!
3. We are all deeply creative beings with limitless potential.
This is not a self-help statement! In fact, Stanford psychologists are debunking the idea that we are limited by IQ, by education and “innate talent”. With lots of deliberate action, we can stretch ourselves beyond all pre-conceived limits.
So after all those books and baths – and many more to go!- I decided this year I would make my best life happen.
I bet you are thinking the same about your year ahead, too!
Do more of what feeds your body, mind & soul. (Good food, spirituality, motion, self-care in a huge way!)
Connect to mentors, to teachers and to wisdom that is expansive.(Mentors are not easy for me to come by, but when I need them, they appear! I bet they will for you, too! )
Throw down creatively and really practice the arts and crafts that you find exciting. (Get that kitchen gadget, that easel to paint, or the lens for the camera. Take the time to push the limits of artistry! I mean, life was meant to be lived!)
Now, if you are reading this and you aren’t quite feeling that deeply creative, self-directed or fully-expressed in your life at the moment, it is not hard to get past the creative blocks if you decide it is worth it to you!!!
HERE are 2 things that everyone should know about creative blocks. (I wrote this and I’m still going to read it often!)
New Year’s or any time of year, you can make the decision to move forward, broaden your life and enrich your world. I decide that every day. It’s not all easy- challenge is part of the best of it- but it is so worth it! xoxo Dana
