Gotta love ancient wisdom. And who doesn’t love the idea of building the new, and being free from the confines of the les-than-awesome past?!
Well, sometimes I have found I can refine the past as I build the new. And that is the best kind of magic!
When I first started getting serious about building the feng shui’d concepts that were swirling in my mind into something more integrated and real, I needed to find a way to look beyond the past and the past ways I had done things. I needed to take a leap into a world that didn’t exist, in a sense, and create stuff that would possibly- hopefully- help people change perspective on things.
I started by adding a lot of fire to my life. I needed motivation, energy, and fuel.
And I overdid it.
I didn’t realize that along the way, fire wasn’t the only answer. I added so much fire to my life over time that I was burning out.
Ever drink too much coffee and feel like hell a few hours after the energy burns off? Do that every day and you start to see that “too much energy” is a real thing.
All that said, if you need a burst of energy right now, a little fire energy can help. Light a candle, eat something spicy and warm, wear some red, put on some bright lights today.
And balance that burst of energy from fire with some good rest.
As a little Flashback to my early days, here’s the first video I ever made for YouTube that happened the day I got my puppy Bob. Bittersweet, it was just a few weeks before I got very sick (as a product of burning myself out) , a month before I decided to build this blog and a few months before my mom died suddenly. The whole time, having Bob- the most spontaneous decision of my life- was the heart and soul of making it through to the other side.
Watching this, I can see the idylic moments where I had the clarity to push myself into a strange and unknown space and start making spontaneous decisions that . Fire helped me reinforce the leaps I wanted to make. It can do the same for you… in measured doses!
In watching the past on YouTube, I can say that over the last few years I have learned that balance and well-being trump mad rushes of energy any and every day. Marathon runners can go the distance… they don’t sprint the whole way.
This idea of adding fire to your life to get things moving quickly still holds true today… just temper it with lots of rest!!!
I can’t believe Bob was so itty bitty!
Here’s to looking forward & building the new! xoxo Dana

This is so, so true! Right now I am reading “Manifest Your Destiny” by Wayne Dwyer which has been a life changing book and speaks to this. It is a really powerful book and while I am still working on becoming a better “me” every time I crack open the book, it seems to answer a question I have about achieving this better “me”. A definite must read in the new year!!! All the best 🙂 BTW, I have a Keurig in my classroom and it is a running joke in my school….onto buying a Nutribullet to work on my insides…lol…I am also diggin’ Tony Robbins at the moment…what an amazing speaker!!!
