Andy Goldsworthy – British photographer, sculptor and environmentalist- uses nature as his paint and clay for art. The beauty of his work that stretches beyond the obviously good-looking aesthetics: each piece if this site-specific art is meant to blow away, melt, and wash back into its beginnings, folding back into the Earth.
Can you imagine to create this, like an icy house of cards…?!
For Andy Goldsworthy, art is apparent everywhere. In an interview with Time magazine, Goldsworthy talks about the impact of farming on his art:
“I lived near Leeds and worked from the age of 13 on a farm right where the suburbs began — and that was very important. I was always going to be an artist, since I was a kid, but the impact that farming had was tremendous. It’s a very sculptural activity. Not just dry stone walls but stacking bales — big minimalist sculptures, beautiful and enormous. Plowing a field is drawing lines on the land, painting the fields — it’s incredibly visual….” (you can read the whole article HERE)
Suffice it to say, all of like can be art if you allow it to be.
Like gold in a stream.
It is so powerful to see that as this ice sculpture is bright to full-color light by the sun, it simultaneously turns to water drops that slide down each point.
How much does this make you want to go hang out in a desert and collect stones, or is that just me?
Ribbons of ice, mirroring the spirals of energy that seem to surround all stark forest trees.
Stacked impossibly balanced stones are deliciously somehow exactly how they are supposed to be, if only for a moment.
Land art: Fleeting. Precious. Rough. Perfect. Challenging to the sensibilities, yet so seemingly “right.” .
There is beauty everywhere if you are open to see it. xoxo Dana
