A Super Fun Creativity Exercise To Make You Smarter!

(grab this on Etsy)

I am a huge fan of words, and this art on Etsy shines forth with a fantastic creativity exercise to help you refresh your vocabulary while  flexing your creative spirit.

The exercise: Take a page from an old dictionary and illustrate one work on the page… on the page!  Yes, I would not deface a working dictionary but if you have one that is coming apart (as I do!) this is a great way to make the most of it and give it a second life as a sketchbook.

Can’t draw well? That’s fine.  Use colors, materials like pastels or watercolor, to evoke the feeling of the word you choose.

Want to preserve your dictionary? Xerox pages from it at random and use them a your canvas to explore- and expand your bank of words in the process.

An interesting thought to tack onto this for the day: reality is as real and crisp as we can describe it.  The more words that we have at our disposal, the more we can describe or experience of life.

xoxo Dana
