Do you have a lot of intimacy in your life? Do you have deep friendships, a relationship filled with strong connection, and a feeling of loads of love in your life that is solid?

Many people struggle with this “we-dome” in a “me”-first society.

You do come first when creating intimacy. Every expert in the world seems to agree on that point.

But, then you extend yourself to others in order to grow in a far more synergistic way.

I’ve written a bunch about the life-changing nature of intimacy.   Given that so many of you have burning feng shui bedroom & love questions, I thought it would be a good time to unfold more of the intimate nature of intimacy to see how it can be created where it is blocked.

Rob Alicea writes about his own experience of immersion in a course on creating intimacy in Rewire Me:

“One of the first things I learned is that intimacy is the culmination of self-care. When I heard that, something clicked. Could longtime problems with developing intimacy stem from difficulty with our own self-worth? As the classes progressed, it became clear to most of us that it did.

Dr. Rubin spelled out the ten characteristics that need to be present in order for intimacy to occur:

  1. Safety

  2. Trust

  3. Listening

  4. Respect

  5. Caring

  6. Mutuality

  7. Integrity

  8. Risk

  9. Exploration

  10. Shared values

I highly encourage you to read the whole article HERE. It is amazing.

Each one of the points mentioned above is worthy of its own deep exploration, but for our purposes today, keep a person in mind and move down the list. You might want to think of yourself and your personal amount of engagement on each of these points, rather than what you “get” from another person.

Where do you feel that you are abundant with someone? Where do you fall short? Where do you not even try?

If you go in search of differences between you and other people you will find tons. We are all vastly unique.

That said, if you look for the connections, you will find them as well.

If you want to deepen your relationships, can you risk more? Can you trust more? Can you actively focus on a we rather than a me? If you do this, you create space for other people to respond in kind.

When is the last time you have seen a relationship based on threats and ultimatums, separation and games, work out well?

Probably never.

In feng shui your life is a mirror of you. This list seemed like a great jumping off point to help you polish your own mirror so that what is reflected back is the best of yourself and the best of others.

In your home, look for ways that things feel cold, abandoned or unloved. Simple things like brighter light, a little polish or a candle can make things a bit warmer.

How much do you connect to your home? How we connect to our environment really says a lot about how much we connect to our lives. If you don’t feel connected, find a way to personalize something (even a small thing like a family photo on a shelf) a bit more.

Now, back to the list above. How can you symbolically add more of what you are failing to give to others at the moment to your space? This is where the ideas of adding pairs of objects (expressing mutuality) to enhance relationships arises. But, there are so many more! How do you create a feeling of safety? Exploration? Receptive listening? Trust? Caring?

Follow your instincts and see what happens when you make small shifts to live with more of these values in your space. I bet you will be amazed at how much more alive and illuminated you feel.

Now, share that with the world.
