Feng Shui in my way is about story rather than just space. It doesn’t matter if you live in a tiny studio or a 12-bedroom estate, your home will tell a story about you and every day you will read that story.
We all know what happens when you read something every day
Consciously or unconsciously it will affect you.
It seeps into your mind, reminding you .
Perhaps in a less-than-great way your home will remind you of how much you’ve neglected (because the shower still isn’t fixed), of your financial limitations that you can’t seem to shake (as the furniture frays), of your breakups (with old lovers gifts stuff in your house) or your illnesses (with a medicine chest packed with old prescriptions)…
Do you see how this works?
Everything in your space is part of a narrative you absorb daily. And you are in charge of the script of that story!
You can edit the story of your home to be one of triumph (having reparired things that were broken for a long time), of greater self-esteem as walls turn shades of powerful color instead of malaise, of artistic exploration and expansion (where art replaces bare, soulless walls).
You know when you are making changes that shift the narrative of your home because everyone is happier, even (& especially in my case!) your animals sense that things are much better when the story of a home shifts.
Take the time today to put one symbolic thing in your home- even if it is a flower that has a meaning that you admire.
Symbols have a way of amplifying messages without too many words. Symbols that really speak to your soul can help you to re-wire your brain by re-arranging your home!
Seriously this is big stuff!
Start by sweeping your house of dust and cleaning some clutter.
Now make one symbolic move that lights up your space like gorgeous flowers with passionate meanings put in key areas of your home. Look at all the symbolic meanings of roses alone!!!
Symbols that speak to me like pairs of candlesticks to represent unity, ancient calligraphy on art, big gemstones- are likely different than the ones that speak to you. I suggest you don’t choose your symbolic goodness based on “feng shui symbols”. I personally find the toads and the tortoises and other “feng shui sculptures” to be somewhat scary and tasteless. Choose what moves you to change based on what makes you feel strong, grounded and happy.
Flowers, tapestries, geometry, art, sculpture, greenery, minerals vintage relics and family treasures . you know what will make your home shine. Do that!
And as I am writing this I just realized that the place for my bronze wall plaques that spell out Good Fortune in Mandarin (I love them because they are golden bronze and fancy to behold!) will make their way today to my dining room wall where I sit most of the day to lift the space even more!
You can do this! It’s the easiest feng shui there is! xoxo Dana
