I used to think that ruthless, powerful and even, dare-I-say-it, “controlling” people were in a league of their own. A rarefied league of great achievers, these power-collectors mesmirized me with their ability to get what they wanted.
Until, that is, I got to know lots of them. Lots and lots and lots.
It is not real power.
Beneath a deep need for power and “getting things their way”, there is horrible insecurity and terrific fear plaguing many of these folks. Men and women who are blinded by their own wants fall into a sort of hell of greed.
This isn’t to say ambition is a bad thing: ambition and achievement are both awesome. Positive leadership is beautiful.
Real power is peaceful.
What is really heartbreaking is to see the people “who have it all” who have no happiness, no love and no support in their lives because they can’t see past themselves. Their walls that keep them from happiness are made of fear.
Couple it with anger, pride and a sort of blind ambition and you have a perfect way of crushing the good things in life.
Build a life you are proud of, dare to sit in your fear and face it head-on, be willing to learn to lead as well as to follow…
You don’t want to grow up to be a person with great regrets and yet with lots of stuff that means nothing to you. xoxo Dana
