Do you practice following your feelings?
Do you often think, as I have far more times than I can count… ” I knew this was going to happen!!!”?
It’s easy to know it and sort of think it can be different. It’s easy to get a bad feeling or a good feeling and reason against it because it’s risky or feels odd or is a big leap to trust.
I also know that following your feelings isn’t the most “logical” suggestion these days.
Feelings are things that get associated with the irrational, the wild, the fickle.
But none of the above is true.
We all know what good and bad vibes feel like, and the more we can trust them, the more we will soar.
Today’s Feng Shui is about knowing what you know and following your feelings!
I have, for a long time, felt … odd… about certain things.
But, as an adult attempting to be “responsible” I have ignored those odd feelings and wound up in wrong jobs, with insane landlords (including one who almost exploded my building), relationships that were tortured at best…
None of this was an achievement– it was so much totally unavoidable stress.
Did I learn? Sure.
Did I need to learn over and over again, the very same thing?
No. Not at all.
There comes a point where I think most of us either start trusting our feelings or, on the flip side, decide to “accept” that life is really unfair in certain ways and we have to excessively struggle.
Feelings tend to win, putting us on a way more exciting path.
To leap, though, from not trusting your feelings to trusting them implicitly is a big leap.
Let’s start easy:
How do you feel?
How does your room make you feel ?
How does your home make you feel?
How does sitting down to do your job make you feel?
How, in general, do you feel?
I was so disconnected from my feelings that it was not was not easy to answer these questions at first. I would “think” about it. “Think” is not “feel.”
Sometimes the words I use now to describe my feelings are words that ring true to me. If can help you to put language to feelings that is less rational and more sensory, more true to that feeling.
Glittery, electric, soft, heavy, overloaded in my head, like I’m floating, like a rocket ship…
These are some of my feeling words!
With that, see if you can check in more often to see how you feel without too much thought.
Note when your feelings shift.
I make decisions based on… how I feel.
It’s led me to turn things down that no one understood, to do things no one understood, and, quite directly I can say that the last five years barring two things that come to mind, I can’t say I’ve argued against the vibes I have felt.
The results are unparalleled.
Start in small ways.
I was not turning down contracts, starting big projects and making big moves based on my feelings all at once. I didn’t go from 0 to 100 in all of this.
It started more with things that I wasn’t mindful of that I noticed once I was more aware of my feelings.
I feel like I need to get up earlier now.
I feel like I want to go to this party, even though I would go alone.
I feel it’s time to change internet providers.
Small stuff, subtle things. And once I saw that these small things were bringing me big benefits, it allowed me to look at the bigger urges with more seriousness.
I feel like I want to move.
I feel like this relationship is done, and now is the time to let this go.
I feel like this project is overdue to get started so it’s time.
The feelings become a compass.
Sure, I still think… but it’s not the kind of self-sabotaging circles of thought that made me crazy and doubtful.
Instead of saying, “Ugh, I knew this was going to happen.”
More often than not I’m saying, “OMG, I knew this was going to happen! I’m glad I listened!”
Feel. Trust. Flourish.
