7 of My Latest Sustainable Home + Lifestyle Switches That Have Been Abundant Upgrades!

May 21, 2019 | Creativity

From fresh sheets that are sustainable in every way to a new hair-strengthening trend using RICE (!) that’s been working wonders, I am always exploring methods and products to do things in more eco-friendly and excellent ways!

Keeping an eye on simplicity and effectiveness, quality and results, I am so excited by all these finds that have boosted energy in my life on so many levels. Higher energy = more abundance!!!

FRESH SHEETS! California Design Den sent me some sheets that are not just non-toxic, but also made using the highest of sustainable standards.

My experience of eco-friendly sheets has been this: mixed and frustrating.

Whether they were too thin (so not long lasting )or too scratchy (so not really Feng Shui wonderful) I had persisted, because my principles matter.

These are 1000 thread count and feel both substantial and silky smooth, and with no toxins to worry about, I was able to do a quick wash following their directions (do not over-dry your sheets or they’ll wrinkle and feel stiff!) and sleep brilliantly!

Of all the sheets I’ve found so far, these are winners! And, coming in at under $90 for 1000 thread count for a Queen bed on Amazon, I am sold!

RICE WATER FOR HAIR: Ahhh how I love this tip that I think will be the game changer to get my hair to waist length before I dye it all! Rice has protein and nutrients that have a way of strengthening hair brilliantly. I have watched many videos on You Tube , and THIS ONE is the method I followed that worked for me (you may want to Google and experiment!). I did not do it with a spray bottle… I strained out the rice and put the water in a bowl, dunking in the length of my hair as much as possible and then pouring the rest over my head. (Also: many people use deep conditioner with it at the same time. Experimentation is always a great thing!)

TEA TIME– TO GO! I used to brew herbal tea at home, pour myself a mug of it and then balance the mug in my car so I’d have tea when I got to wherever I was going. This seemed clever but was not smart after it spilled everywhere after many months of doing this to avoid getting cups of tea that were not recyclable at the local shops.

My friends at Groshe introduced me to their tea-diffuser thermos, saving me from this mess! Not only can I skip the step of brewing my tea (it brews right in the thermos) I can also keep it with me all day long since it stays super hot. Groshe donates a lottttt of their money to creating clean water for communities around the world, an initiative so ambitious I am happy to sing their praises for so many reasons!

HERBAL TEA BLENDS:

I have been buying bulk herbs locally to make my own tea. Not only does this dramatically cut down on packaging, it’s freed me up to make my own blends of tea that are amazing!

  • Lemon balm has a million healing properties according to Medical Medium Anthony William. It also helps with sleep.
  • Lavender is delicious and calming, and great to add to other teas.
  • Mint helps with digestion.
  • Hibiscus is excellent for the liver according to Anthony Willian again, and full of vitamin C…
  • And, I am hooked on Fennel Seed tea, too!

COCONUT OIL FACE WASH:

I am huge on K-Beauty methods because it’s pure self-care amazingness, and one of the first steps is to do an oil cleanse. Usually, this is done with a special oil-based cleanser. Instead: I use Coconut Oil.

Double-cleansing your face is a skin expert’s #1 tip, regardless of the regimen you follow.

I warm a small amount of coconut oil in my palms, and rub it over my face like cleanser. I heat up a washcloth by running under hot water, wring it out, and place it over my face to “steam” it for about 30 seconds to a minute. Then I use the washcloth to wipe off the oil a bit before doing a second cleanse with some natural soap.

This has been game-changing for my skin, even when I do it only once a day.

ECO-CLEANING PRODUCTS SUBSCRIPTION: I love that people are taking eco-friendly, biodegradable and non-toxic to greater lengths! Eco-cleaning products are easy to find… but most come in PLASTIC. If it were recycled plastic I would be more OK with it, but it’s new plastic, feeding the “more plastic on the planet” beast. Three Main impressed me with their Multi-Surface Cleaner and Bathroom Cleaner in aluminum bottles that’s made with germ-killing peroxide and smells like sweet lemons. While my mainstay is vinegar and water, I’ve been spoiled by this lemon-fresh experience. I’m excited about the refill pouches that are 100% recyclable through their company, too.

MORE FREE TIME: Is this a sustainable switch? For me— YES!!! I love to work and can work endlessly for days and days and then… I am spent.

It’s not sustainable physically or creatively, but, also, it makes me more lazy. I’m not as excited to walk places. I’m not as ready to volunteer. I’m not of service as much as I can be.

Downtime has been and will continue to be something super important to me, so I have all my magic intact for all that’s happening right now!

xoxo!!!
