This little habit has been sitting on the shelf just waiting to be tried out in my life, and its so simple and effective I thought I’d share it with all of you!
This year my allergies were off the charts in Los Angeles, to the point where my throat would hurt and my ears felt like they were popping. The side effects of the medicine my doctor prescribed sounded far worse than anything I could ever imagine. That’s when it hit me: it was time to start tongue scraping!
The reported benefits of using a little, preferably metal, tongue scraper for a minute a day include: alleviated sinus issues and sore throats, a heightened sense of taste (!), an overall enhanced immune system and super-fresh breath.
Its easy to do: just put the tongue scraper as far back on your tongue as you can bear (its not entirely pleasant, this part), and “scrape” it forward along your tongue to the tip. Rinse the scraper and repeat a few times. Now brush your teeth and you are good to go!

Hi Dana!
Just so you know, there’s a better tongue scrapper than that tongue scrapper. It’s your own tooth brush. Everytime you brush your teeth, finish by brushing yout tongue. I do it every time. Unfortunately, although my tongue is quite clean, my allergies didn’t drop, and where also off the charts this year…
Keep up the good work! I adore your blog!

I have brushed my tongue daily for years, but I always seem to have a film on my tongue, especially in the morning. A few months ago I tried tongue scraping… I did it for 2-3 months and just stopped. I never felt like I was experiencing any improvements. I don’t know how long to wait to expect to see any marked results?… I have chronic sinus issues and try to use a neti pot regularly, but I think oil pulling and tongue scraping may be beneficial for me to add to my routine. Also, if anyone wants to try tongue scraping and doesn’t want to invest in an actual tongue scraper right away, you can scrape with a metal spoon from your kitchen. I am going to try again, starting today! Any thoughts or advice?
