Himalayan Salt Lamp Splendor

 salt lamp

I love light. I can’t get enough of it, especially at home.  Some lights are not meant to light up a room or an entire corner: they are fashioned to glow and focus your energy on a spot, infusing that specific place with more prominence and power.  Imagine your glowing light emitted a mild wave of negative ions that helped to clear your air and…and much more! I am thrilled today to talk about Himalayan salt lamps and introduce the gorgeously curated design shopping space Dot & Bo who is giving one of you this awesome lamp!!!

Himalayan salt- the pink crystals mined in hunks- is a key component of this fascinating lamp.   On a basic feng shui level, it adds nature and earth to a space, along with glowing fire.  On a more radiant level, it may help detoxify your environment.

pink salt

While I have not run scientific tests myself (!) nor does the manufacturer make any claims, I find it fascinating what the Mercola site has to say about Himalayan salt lamps:

From a more scientific standpoint, three natural action principles are at work with crystal salt lamps:

1. Ionization — The emission of ions is primarily caused by the alternating actions of the heated salt’s ability to first attract and absorb water, and then evaporate it. The salt goes into a solution as it mixes with the water molecules. Sodium, as positively charged ions, and chloride, as negatively charged ions, become neutral and are released into your environment — which helps reduce pollutants such as allergens and irritants from your air.

2. Electromagnetic oscillation — Every form of life on the planet depends on the electromagnetic field of vibration (known as the Schumann resonance frequency). Due to electronics and industrialization, your body receives artificial electromagnetic wavelengths with many diverse frequency values.

Because of the neutral atomic structure of crystal salt, a heated salt lamp helps you harmonize and balance these artificial frequencies, and neutralize “electro-smog”.

3. Transparent-crystalline structure developing the light waves — It’s well known that you need the light waves of the rainbow spectrum (300-700 nanometers) for your health and preservation of your body. Your cells are supplied by light with new energy in the form of electromagnetic wavelengths.

The wavelengths of salt crystal colors fall within the upper nanometer zone (600-700 nanometers) — producing positive and soothing effects.

Pretty cool right? I love them in bedrooms, offices, libraries…but they work just about anywhere safe to plug them in (though I would not try a nursery without doctor approval!).  Even if none of the science holds water, I still love them and feel their elemental impact greatly.  Having sat in many a Himalayan pink salt sauna, I will say that I am a believer in the vibe-changing nature of these salt stones, no matter the reason!

Dot and Bo is the second exciting part of today’s lamp discussion, because they are giving away one of you very lucky (I am jealous!) readers your own Himalayan salt lamp!  Founded in January 2013 and based in the design district of San Francisco, Dot & Bo is an online design shop that sells undiscovered products from around the world with a hint of Asia. They are taking world-made home goods away from the traditional and creating a formidable and influential design category. And I am very impressed!

Check out Dot & Bo HERE & you will get lost in a land of addictive home design!  But… before you go…drop a note below to be entered to win their stellar lamp!  xoxo Dana

This is really awesome. We give the horses Himalayan salt blocks to eat when they are feeling mineral deprived, and they actually tend to like them better than processed mineral blocks. The salt combined with the warmth reminds me of the beach and I bet it smells really unique too. Do want!!

I have been looking for the right salt lamp since I moved away from my home state of Hawaii. At home the air is so positively charged and full of sea salt, I felt I didn’t need one. But here in Portland…that’s another story! 🙂
