Sugar. Its a beauty wonder.
Last night while contemplating my dry skin I remembered that I had a bag of plain old white sugar in the pantry. Two minutes later, I had an orange sugar scrub waiting in my shower. (Sorry this picture isn’t that very scrub: I mixed mine up at 10pm…not the best light to shoot beauty products! )
Now to the sweet benefits: Sugar doesn’t only manually help slough off those dry skin cells sitting on the surface of your skin, it also contains glycolic acid which penetrates a bit deeper to get rid of more troublesome, pore-clogging dead skin cells that are holding fast to your radiant skin. The result of a good sugar scrub- which I let sit on my body for a few minutes to “do its work’ after scrubbing- is truly glowing and far more moisturized skin.
Its so simple to make!!! You’ve probably seen this before so let it serve as a reminder or motivation to actually mix it up!
Ready?
Sweet Orange Sugar Scrub
- 1 cup white sugar (*plus more for later, as needed)
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 10-15 drops of sweet orange essential oil ( i like it strongly citrus!)
Those are the basic proportions. I find it can be a bit too “watery” for me when the sugar melts. So, I mix up the basic recipe and then pour in my sugar tablespoon full by tablespoonful until its pretty firm and almost crumbly. I will use this within 5 days (!!!) and I resist the urge to make bigger batches because this does not contain any preservatives.
Sweet orange oil increases circulation, its a natural mood enhancer and it stimulates creativity as well. Some people are sensitive to citrus, so try some of the essential oil on your wrist for at least a day to be sure it doesn’t “burn” you, or cause another reaction. The scrub is still awesome without it!
And… if you eat some that’s totally OK!
Enjoy! xoxo Dana
