Afghans are one of the first things my Godmother taught me to make when I was about six years old.  They don’t require much doing once you get the hang of counting the stitches.  The V pattern was my favorite, and still is, though I have experimented with Granny squares and other designs.  I’ve had the same afghans for decades. I will never give them up. They remind me of home, in the most multidimensional and amazing way possible. On that note, I thought today we could look at some afghan inspiration to add a bit of fire, craft & love to your own space!

The chevron afghan above is classic, cool and sophisticated.

I happen to be a fan of using afghans as wall-hangings, though I use mine too often to hang them and may need to find vintage for this very reason…!

Granny squares are a delight in a child’s bedroom, and they utilize all the scraps from your other knitting, provided, of course, that you are already into your yarn!

And, you can go kitschy with crochet and get away with it.  Here wild colors-atop-color create a strangely welcoming effect!

Do you have crafts that remind you of home? Are they in your home? Can they be???
