Mauve Decor Steps Out Of The 80’s!

If you have had even a small bit of exposure to the 1980’s you are familiar with the long lost color mauve. In a throwback move, I painted a (gasp!) single accent wall of mauve in my bedroom that happens to be quite genius.  Not quite purple, not quite pink, mauve also has layers of grays that make it moody and complex.  Mauve adds fire without a bright blaze to a space, and it is undoubtedly unique. After all, mauve went away after 1980…and it makes a reappearance in really special places with a modern, rich, clean edge!

Viva the 1980 above, in a room fit for the Golden Girl’s (who incidentally dabbled with a lot of mauve in a chic way!), yet I include it for contrast to the below…and also, I like the splashes of deeper turquoise.

Maybe its the exotic mix here that makes this mauve really work, but I just love it.

Deeper mauve reads almost like raspberry in low light, but more complex violet pink in the brightness.

And while this may be more walls of mauve than I can personally endorse for my own bedroom, I do love the whole look in its singular chic.

Are you ready to drag mauve out of the 80’s?  xoxo Dana
