Vintage Moroccan, Turkish kilim, wild geometry, hand-woven hemp, sisal… the possibilities for phenomenal carpet are endless. If you are a fan of white walls, your floors offer a giant tableau upon which to add masterpiece carpets. Lots can be found vintage, many imports are stunning, and handcrafted merchandise can often be customized. A great carpet can really ground, complete, enliven and catalyze a room, and you can move it whenever you are ready for a change. It’s the ultimate home accessory… and, as I am shopping for very special rugs for two very special spaces, I wanted to include you in on my trek through inspiration & feng shui tips along the way!
The radical geometry and tropical blue punch are divine. Talk about making a room happen. For my purposes (my new home project and a very exciting feng shui design collaboration in New York) this is the right amount of drama but not the right idiom. Let’s go a “earthier”…
This woven hemp-like neutral rug really puts “ground” under this sofa and makes this whole room feel like a nest onto itself. I do like the hand-woven texture and the ease of this one, as well as its grand size!
Could this rug have run it’s too-trendy course? I really dare think that its a myth- this carpet is a new classic in my mind. I would most absolutely work it into my own home, with all its rhythm and softness. For the urban space… it is too white and light.
Tabletonic’s stockpile of Turkish kilim rugs are all must-haves. These kilim rugs are my ALL-TIME favorite… plus they have color, history and the handmade all combined to shape their character! BUT: how do I get them from Australia to New York without spending a small fortune?! (*The Juju hats on the wall are a must as well!!!)
The very wise Louise of Tabletonic included a link to a guide for picking out a carpet for your home, right HERE. It is quite great. I might add to it that you want to think about the textures and the way they make you feel, both looking at them and walking on them. Fun fact of the day: texture affects our perception. This is a big way that we create perception and shape our moods- all based on textures.
So, make sure the textures as well as the colors thrill you to pieces! xoxo Dana
