Fashion is a big part of life. Wear something you love and your confidence will soar. Science has proven that you are percieved differently by others based on the colors, fabrics and accessories you combine and wear. While it seems that feng shui only deals with space, how you dress is another part of your life design… and feng shui principles apply. Carol M. Olmstead wrote a brilliant guide to feng shui’ing your Spring wardrobe based on color psychology and the Five Elements in feng shui- simple, practical and a cinch to apply to your life!- so I am excited to share it today!
Feng Shui Your Spring Wardrobe, by Carol M. Olmstead
Spring is officially here and everywhere I look the stores are filled with colorful spring clothes. When it comes to combining Feng Shui and fashion, especially in choosing what to wear for specific activities and occasions, “you are what you wear.” Like it or not, the colors you wear affect your emotions and influence how others judge and respond to you. So when you are looking for new clothes this spring, try selecting the color, pattern, fabric, and shape of your clothes based on the Five Element in Feng Shui. Each Element has specific attributes, so when you wear the colors and shapes that represent that Element, you project its attributes.
-
Fire Element. Wear this Element if you are involved in social or communication activities or want to feel dramatic. The colors are red, orange, and purple; the patterns are pointed designs, animal prints; the fabrics are satin and shiny textures; the shapes are angular and form fitting. Red is the ideal color when you want to draw attention to yourself, so wear this color when you speak in public or want to stand out from the crowd. Avoid red if you are nervous or self-conscious.
- Earth Element: Wear this Element if you are involved in the community or family oriented activities or want to feel stable and grounded. The colors are brown, yellow, terra cotta; the patterns are checks and plaids; the fabrics are tweed, flannel, textured; the shapes are boxy.Yellow conveys stability so you can wear it when you have an important decision to make, but avoid yellow when you are feeling tired since it might drain your energy levels.
- Metal Element: Wear this Element if you are involved with cultural activities or want to feel elegant and stand apart. The colors are white, pastel, metallic; the patterns are round, dots, and scrolls; the fabrics are polished, glittery, shiny; the shapes are round. White can be a low-energy color, so wear it when you want to seem casual or playful.
- Water Element: Wear this Element if you are involved in artistic, intellectual, and spiritual activities, or want to feel elegant and project strength. The colors are black, navy, deep blue; the patterns are wavy, paisley, and abstract; the fabrics are sheer, chiffon; the shapes are flowing. Black conveys authority and power and promotes a sense of depth and strength. Wear black if you need to command leadership or exude mystery. Black makes you stand apart from the crowd, so avoid wearing it when you need to be seen as an equal.
- Wood Element: Wear this Element if you are involved in health related or athletic activities or want to feel energized and active. The colors are green, blue; the patterns are vertical and stripes; the fabrics are cotton, linen, ribbed fabrics; the shapes are columnar. Green projects growth and development so it’s a great color to wear when learning new skills, taking classes, or when you need to be energized. Avoid wearing green when you are restless because it is a stimulating color.
I love this Carol!!!
