My Obsession With Gold Mirrors! (& Some Essential Mirror Feng Shui Tips)

Golden mirrors were everywhere in my childhood home.  They were the 1970’s answer to electrifying glamour.

Thing about it: the already energized mirror with the power to double everything thatit sees seems to be super-charged with golden color.

After moving recently, I realized I now have a gold mirror surplus. Three EXTRA golden mirrors. Big ones! How is that even possible?!

That’s how much I love them.

Today’s design’spiration is all about the golden mirror, and essential mirror tips for your home, too! I would love to hang every gold mirror I have, but, alas, mirrors are meant to be used with care, not splashed up everywhere!

You can see the impact above.  NOTE:  this room would be a million times better if the chandelier were not dangling over the bathtub, but, rather, beside it.

A great big gold mirror is all you need to create a massive space statement. Mirrors are often used in design to create a sense of spaciousness, but their effect really depends upon their placement.

For example, if you have a mirror reflect a very busy opposing wall, you bring that “busy” wall into the mirror, sort of shrinking the space visually.  Do you follow this? Its a big and important concept.  Mirrors double what they see. Let your mirrors be a tool for space transformation rather than a “decoration.”  (*more to come below!)

Here’s me in my favorite golden mirror on the mantle you see when you enter my place! I had numerous reasons for placing this rather large (3′ X4′) disco-plated gold mirror on this big white mantle.  The first: it reminds me of the best part of my childhood home. But, beyond that, it doubles the clean white space that is the “wisdom” area of my home, bringing it energy.  It is also hanging in the prosperity area of my home, and this is super-duper-good-news, too!  (*more on these “areas” of your home HERE)

While I could get lost in mirrors for hours, they have to be selected, placed and hung well to give you the best feng shui/ energy flow/ experience of space possible.  Here are my essential tips! This is a very very vintage video, but its a great one….!

Enjoy!  xoxo Dana

My family room is my fame area. I have a mirror facing opposite an old 1980’s copper fireplace. And next to the fireplace is my desk. Is the placement of the mirror considered good feng shui? Thank you for your response.

so many factors involved, if it feels good and life is working well, start there… and then you can fine tune 🙂
