The Powerful Science Of Optimism & How To Bring It To Everything You Do!

If I had a dime for all the people who have come down on me for being happy and thinking the best – even of very dark situations- I would have a zillion dimes.

I learned optimism out of necessity at a very young age, and it is hard-wired into my life.  Now, out in the vast world that seems designed full of pitfalls to crush spirits and convince us that dreams are unrealistic, I have learned to create my own world of optimism.

From boho dreamcatchers to art in stacks, wands of sage to incredible literature, I make my world my own.  When things are light, they just feel much more right.

Today, here’s a bit of very cool science on optimism to help push you toward your own blissed-out universe.

kale ice cram shakes

Kale ice cream shakes, wands of sage for days, flower remedies, crystal-infused water… Yes, my world of energy can be a wild one, but it’s my world. I deal with a lot of other people’s energy so I have to do lots to keep my own extra buzzy.  Often its as simple as walking the dogs extra-long and getting wine with friends at the corner for the evening.

All of this stuff I do- stuff that I love-  is in service of one idea: everything always works out!

If you know nothing about me, suffice it to say that challenge started well before I was actually born while my mom was being abused and crying all day with me growing inside of her.  Optimism sort of found me as I gravitated toward people who seemed to have a glow.  I knew there was way more than the colorful hell I was born into, and I have pulled myself out of really bad places by practicing this one thing more than anything else…

Everything always works out if I am willing to stay light.

First, some science.

Overall, optimism is the best thing ever!

Optimism makes you healthier.  Pursuit of Happiness distills the studies on optimism and health into a very big conclusion:

“Optimism can have profound effects on a person’s physical health. The mere act of expecting positive outcomes and being hopeful can boost a person’s immune system, protect against harmful behaviors, prevent chronic disease, and help people cope following troubling news. Optimism can even predict a longer life. Among psychological constructs, optimism may be one of the most important predictors of physical health.” (you can read all the studies cited HERE)

Optimism leads to more success.  Material success as well as the success of having a happy life are both more guaranteed to the optimist.  CNN reported on the science of positive thinking in THIS great piece that echoes many of the sentiments I hopd dear about knowing things will work out well:

“A recent study by the University of California, Riverside, titled ‘Does Happiness Promote Career Success,’ professors concluded that ‘happy people’ are more satisfied with their jobs and report having greater autonomy in their duties.
Additionally, they perform better than their less happy peers and receive more support from coworkers.
Finally, positive individuals are less likely to be unemployed and more likely to be physically healthier and live longer.
And the debate over happiness and work goes way back in history. Ancient Greek philosopher Galen said employment is “nature’s physician, essential to human happiness.” (the whole article his HERE)

Now, some light for your days!

If you are shrinking into a heavy space, drink some kale.  Blend it up as a smoothoe or a juice.  If you can’t do that, just eat some as a salad.   Drink more water while you are at it, as water provides a fresh start for your body.

Get your energy straight. Right now I am studying Energy Medicine and Donna Eden recommends that you create your own energy routine to “unscramble” your energies throughout the day.  Think about it— we are living in a world of a zillion waves of thought, radio waves, microwave waves, sound waves, light waves.  This is a lot of confusion!  Even a simple routine of taking a short walk in the morning can “unscramble you” a great deal.

Get more grounded.  Its funny, but when you are grounded as a being you are lighter as a person. This video is filled with some of my favorite ways to feel more empowered, grounded and yes…. OPTIMISTIC!!!

Really-truly-madly-crazily enjoy your day!

xoxo Dana
