How Do You Find Your Balance In Life?

I’ve wondered and often ask people I meet how they find their balance, if they seem to have balance.

It’s something elusive to so many of us.

I’ve come to see that balance isn’t always sitting calmly and contemplating a lake.  Sometimes it’s dynamic.  Sometimes it’s solitary, and other times it’s in a crowd or in front of a crowd.

So, today I wonder: how do you find your balance?

Balance isn’t always a life with picket fences and lights out at 10pm.

It isn’t always even quiet.

We all don’t need or necessarily want a life with structure that is regular. Some of us work at passions for hours deemed “too much” or feel moved to give more time or energy to projects and people and life that we feel great love for that doesn’t look “regular” on paper.

If you want a life with this dynamic and passionate pulse, that doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice your wellness.

Balance- the way I’ve seen it work best for people- is an energetic state of wellness, stability and peace that is readily accessed.

Do you ride a bike? Do you remember how you learned to ride? I could never figure out a hand break on a bike so for me, my balance when things were going too fast and my bike felt a bit too much in control of me was to swerve a bit and put my foot on the ground to stop things for a second and start again at a speed I could manage.

That’s the best way I can describe the balance that I think anyone can have: in the midst of things moving fast, you know when and how to put on the breaks in your own way and take a moment to slow things down to equilibrium.

If you find that balance eludes you, experimenting with new ways to “put the breaks on” in your life, even for 15 or 30 minutes at a time, can be invaluable.

  • Some ideas to find your balance “breaks”:
  • Zoning out to watery music
  • Taking a nap
  • Going to a walk, even in less-than-amazing weather!
  • Spiritual practice (*I take Buddhist chanting breaks all day)
  • Make some art- even doodling
  • Detox bath in some Epsom salt…. or even a luscious bubble bath!

And the list goes on and on.

Before you feel doomed to either

1. quitting your job or your life to feel peace

OR

2. accepting excessive stress and misery as a fact of life in order to do all you need or want to do

Try something small.

Find your own tool kit.

Design your own balance into life.

And keep moving! After all: It’s way easier to balance on a moving bike than a stationary one!

How do you find your balance?! Please feel free to leave a comment or shoot me a message and let me know. This is the great stuff that’s well-worth collecting to help each other!!!
