Do you believe you have the power to change anything?
You do. You really do.
I believe in real change, not throw a blanket over things or sweep them under the rug change. Change that is fundamental. It’s solid. It’s not going away.
That change takes real presence and effort and consistency.
Today’s feng shui is all about troubleshooting your change-making! If you’ve been trying hard to make a shift in your life and not getting anywhere solid despite trying, today I’m sharing the three things that have tripped me up… and might be tripping you up, too!
These are the three components to change-making that really make a difference. In feng shui terms, you can see these principles mirrored in your home, too.
1. Presence. When I’ve been overwhelmed, all I wanted to do is check-out. Whether it’s a party to go to or a night of binge-watching Netflix, there are so many ways to leave the planet and disappear into another place. Staying present will help you to make the kind of changes that matter.
How present have you been?
Are you vanishing into food (or not eating!), sugar, caffiene, drinking, over-working, drama, TV, internet or something else? Can you come back to being more present?
Something as simple as a great meal and a good night’s sleep can turn a streak of bad days around.
If you haven’t been present you can see it in your home as CLUTTER.
2. Clear effort. It’s easy to get discouraged when you are working hard and not seeing results. When I’ve seen no progress its often not for lack of energy expended, its because my energy has been scattered.
Can you relate?
If you really focus your energy on finishing each thing in front of you, you’ll see progress. It may be tiny steps of progress, but it will be actual progress. That’s what you need.
If you’ve been scattered it often manifests at home as unfinished projects everywhere.
3. Consistency. I see it all the time… especially with clients who are raring to go in making changes and, instead of building habits, they dive in full force in change-making, burn out, and then quit for a while.
There’s nothing wrong with passion to change things and make them better… but its far more powerful to be like water rather than like fire. Fire has bursts of energy and then flames out. Water flows consistently.
At home, a lack of consistency often shows in housecleaning that is way overdue. These projects build up until a firey burst of energy forces you to clean up all at once…. though you’ll only get to a fraction of the work before you feel exhausted.
If you’ve been not-quite making progress where you dream to excel, can you change it today?
Can you find a way to show up more for the day, today?
Can you focus your energy more and get rid of distractions?
Can you find small projects that can be done consistently rather than a big wave of stuff to do all at once?
You can do it, I know you can!
xoxo Dana

Thank you!!! Your message came to me today at the perfect time! I’m currently going through a break up of sorts with my “boyfriend” and I’m scattered in so many ways. On top of that, I want a new career, and feel like I’m hovering in an unfulfilling job. I feel like I’m complaining, but I’m trying to see the light at the end. Your emails and blog really inspire me to create my space better, and to be more mindful of my surroundings.
Thank you for this.
Sincerely,
Melissa Zugell
I loved this reminder especially since I’ve been diving into change making for the last year and fit into EVERY category you mentioned above. Lol! I have unfinished projects lurking in drawers and surfaces like the dining room table, I have just finished cleaning my apartment after 3 months of inconsistent effort and I’m running around doing things I think will get me into my future dream life but I’m not Present in my everyday life! You just described me but your videos and blog have inspired me on so many levels!!! Thanks so much for the PRACTICAL application of Feng Shui principles. I always look forward to seeing a message or video from you in my inbox:))
