The state of being wildly busy is here to stay. Whether your busy is a challenge or a joy — or both — maintaining your momentum and strength in the marathon of life requires balance.
Balance is what enables a surfer to ride waves, even in treacherous weather. To ride out our own waves of life with skill requires that same internal sense of equilibrium.
Most of the extremely driven people I know who completely lack balance fear that if they had more balance they would lose their excellence in some way. In fact, it is with more balance that you gain excellence. When life goes crazy busy — even when it’s really good — sleep gets out of whack, eating becomes a when-you-can-do-it event, and everything can get overwhelming fairly fast.
Our environments are a mirror of our lives. I can usually see in people’s homes just how balanced their life is at the moment. While a house that looks like a cyclone hit is a clear sign of chaos, there are many ways to see imbalance. Homes decorated in all one color, extremely loud spaces, in-your-face technology-packed houses … all dramatically display imbalance. Living in spaces you want to avoid or in a place that makes you feel withdrawn, exhausted, anxious or upset is a more subtle way to experience imbalance in your home.
While balance is a very personal concept and no one feng shui tip is one-size-fits-all, here are some pretty universal ways you can create more balance in your space to help you become more centered and powerful in all of life.
