I was floored when a medical doctor at a huge hospital agreed not too long ago that instead of taking anti-inflammatory drugs (i.e.: Ibuprofin, etc) that I could take large doses of turmeric!!! In fact, I was so encouraged I ran around telling people in the doctor’s office all the extra benefits of turmeric (like, major mood boosting, beautifying benefits!) and everyone, in pain or not, wanted to try it.
While I am not one bit against modern medicine or life-saving pharmaceutical drugs, I am all for the magic of nature as a healer as many times as possible as an alternative to drugs in smaller situations. My giant doses of turmeric, castor oil packs, hot pepper creams and homeopathy have been amazing first aid in harmony with the Earth & I am excited to share them today !
Pepper-Fueled Pain Killer Capsaicin:
Capsaicin is an active component of chili peppers that is a natural analgesic; a substance that rids the body of the sensation of pain.
As this is a very hot substance, it is often applied topically and can be found in creams, lotions, gels and patches. A strong reminder from Global Healing Center: When using a capsaicin ointment, a slight burning or itching sensation is common but temporary. Wash your hands thoroughly after application to avoid spreading the ointment to sensitive areas such as the eyes.
I’ve used many different “stick on” anti-inflammatory patches for minor injuries that include a big dose of capsaicin but this one I’m going for next as it’s Amazon reviews have me sold!
Castor oil packs:
According to Dr. Axe, Castor oil is often used a natural treatment for arthritis pain, joint swelling and inflammation. It has natural anti-inflammatory properties that make it an ideal massage oil that can be applied to aching joints, muscles or tissue.Try massaging painful areas with castor oil followed by a hot water pack to increase absorption and drainage. Practicing this process twice weekly can give you the most pain-reducing results.

This is also known an Indian frankincense and comes from the Boswellia tree.
It was noted in WebMD: In one study, people who often get cluster headaches had milder, less frequent headaches when they took boswellia. You can take it as a capsule or tablet, up to 900 milligrams per day.
Boswellia can also be used to support and hasten the bodys natural healing of wounds, bones, and bruises.
The active ingredient in tumeric is known as curcumin.
A study published in the Alternative and Complementary Medicine Journal concluded that turmeric can be used as an effective alternative to ibuprofen for osteoarthritis.
According to David Wolfe, The most effective way to take turmeric is through an extract, which simplifies the absorption process, but you can also use the root.
I am obsessed with Turmeric Tea. And when I really need turmeric for any kind of minor inflammation, I drink it all day.
Arnica (& lots of homeopathy!)
Arnica is indigenous to the mountainous areas of Europe and Siberia. It is an herbaceous, flowering plant. Helenalin is the anti-inflammatory component in arnica oil.
Used in the form of an ointment, cream or oil, arnica can help the pain of bruises, sprains, aches and arthritic flare-ups.

Be well, rest well, listen to your body & see your doctor before taking supplements like these. I’m so encoraged that my doctor was up for my turmeric-taking in place of Ibuprofin. I think we’ll see much more of this move toward Mother Nature healing ahead of us, for sure!
