If you’ve been plotting a breakthrough, a new chapter or a goal finally realized and you’ve been sort of idling in one spot instead of moving forward, there are so many reasons why you might be stuck at that level.
Why isn’t that important to me today– I’m far more interested in starting with solutions than I am in reasons why (!) because the reasons tend to emerge while you’re busy creating things, and wanting to know why can leave us stuck.
Let’s move to that next level, creating more space, energy and freedom along the way.
Your success you’ve been working toward may be way closer than you think!
There are a few interesting concepts that kept the doors closed in my life and the glass ceiling over my own head that wouldn’t budge no matter how hard I worked. It was daunting to imagine what it would be like to live the life I dreamed of while I struggled to manage the life I had right now!
Sound familiar?
You are not alone.
And, you can re-organize your own energy and life in ways that move you past these seemingly closed doors and glass ceilings. It doesn’t take a lot of skill. But it does take lots of self-love!
These are just a few of the ideas, but the big ones, that held me back and still catch me at times totally unaware. I’ve seen them echoed in so many people I know and clients I’ve worked with… and they’re luckily – and completely- easy to move far beyond…!
First: it can be scary to imagine in real terms actually getting what you want.
As ludicrous as this may seem, I convinced myself at one point in my life that if I had more than enough money, I would have zero motivation. So, even when I made more and more and more money, I managed to move my expenses so high that I would always have just enough. It was this bizarre form of self-sabotage. I really could see myself taking more time off, being able to travel more for fun and so many other things so clearly… but… I could not yet accept it would be real and good for me.
In her book “The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity” Catherine Ponder talks about a truck driver who was visualizing financial freedom, a lifestyle of security for his family and even fortune beyond that. His life moved forward considerably, but then seemed to idle before any of those big dreams came to fruition. He kept on imagining, affirming and working… and finally, he exceeded his wildest dreams. His insight was that he wasn’t fully ready to accept what he was envisioning when he first began, but he worked his way up to that vision.
Can you keep on working toward things even if progress has hit a slow down?! YES! Sometimes we are making all kinds of progress that we don’t see for weeks or months. Sometimes we’re getting intuitive messages to switch up what we’re doing, to find new methods, to upgrade our systems. Follow what feels great… and keep on moving toward more joy in everything you do all day!!! The outcome isn’t the only thing that matters—the process is a big deal!!!
Find joy in your process and don’t drop the bar on your dreams because they’re taking some time.
You don’t want to marry “just anyone” for the sake of being married, right? Same goes for all things! Keep that vision burning bright.
We start every cycle of the online Camps with a Visioning Workshop and I’m always astonished at how unclear even my own vision is of certain aspects of life each season, and I’m blown away by how much each season of visioning brings more energy and actually progress to everyone!!!
See it clearly and keep on going…!!!
Next: are you all-in? It can be tempting to hold back your gifts because, well, what if you give it all and don’t get the result you want? Or worse and more perplexing… what if you DO get the result you want?!
Here’s one awesome piece about the unconscious self-sabotage we can all do from time to time to keep from crossing the barrier to a next-level in anything (a relationship, a business, a creative project, a life goal, etc) as explained by James Sudakow in Inc:
“Often, if you give it everything you have and still fail, you get pats on the back and respect for having put it all out there. It’s the “you left it all out there on the field” concept.
What if you convinced yourself that you were putting it all out there and giving it everything you had even though you knew deep down that you weren’t? You’d still get the pats on the back and could walk away from it knowing “it just wasn’t meant to be.” Then you could go back to what you knew.
It may sound like dysfunctional psycho-babble behavior, but it’s quite common even for people who have achieved some degree of success. Some experts have identified this exact phenomena. One describes very common self-sabotaging behaviors:
“…the pesky excuses for why we didn’t get something done, telling ourselves mediocre is good enough or believing that the huge goal we set is just too big.”
The real challenge is that we don’t even realize we are doing it.”
I don’t know precisely how you can move part your self-sabotage in this way, or how I have done it and catch myself needing to do it. There’s always a new path… but the overarching energy though that moves me beyond it:
Staying present & rising above that level of noise known as fear.
I know when I’ve sort of held back for the sake of not wanting to shine too brightly. I know when I’ve swallowed my words or denied myself for the sake of being perceived a certain way. I bet you know when you’ve done it or when you’re doing it, too!
As Anita Moorjani explains, there’s no success (or wellness) in being a doormat or holding back your gifts. After seemingly miraculously coming back from a near death experience and healing herself in less than months, completely, she gained insight that I find so invaluable:
“Because of my experience, I will never forsake myself ever again. I will never let myself down, treat myself like a doormat, or make myself small so others can feel big. I have learned that this is the biggest gift that I give not only to myself, but also to the planet, because I paint others with the same brush as I use on myself.
My life is much more joyful and meaningful now, and I have much more love to share with others than I ever did before, which I do unconditionally, and without draining myself. But most important, I now understand that if I do not express my authenticity, the Universe will be deprived of who I came here to be.” (full article HERE)
Love your life and love you enough to allow yourself to shine!!!
Finally: Are you too full-up right now to allow more into your life?
Is your mind, spirit, emotional world, body (full of tension, energy blockages, etc), computer, home, office, car and schedule too full to expand anything?
Right before I realize need to make more space in my life I find myself pushing things away/mysteriously watching them fall away or get stuck. Friends cancel plans, mail gets slowed, clients move to a new day, even classes I’m taking or my buddhist temple changes hours for a day on a rare occasion…
And when I’m in that space where a few of these things happens at once, I get to clearing. Cleaning house, clearing space, organizing. Things get restored, and I feel bigger and lighter in the process.
It doesn’t have to be “harder” to grow “bigger” in any way. Not financially, not in friendships, not in love, not creatively…
It’s all unique as to “how” in every situation because every situation we face is so unique to us. It’s also sometimes not necessary to know precisely “why” anything has gotten stuck to start the process of freeing it up.
But, the energy is always similar to creating freedom:
More love. More space. More flow.
That is where the magic happens.
That next level, that step forward, that lighter life, that freedom… it’s all here right now. Open the doors to it and start enjoying it every day…!
