To add manifesting power to your goals and wishes, it’s a really good idea to write them down.
Wish lists, mind maps, goal setting, business plans— you name it, it’s worth doing it!
Not only is it a way to start mapping out your manifestations, it’s a very potent step to making them come to life!

According to Dr. Gail Matthews, a psychology professor at Dominican University in California, people who write down their goals and wishes for the future have a significantly higher chance of reaching them, than those people who do not write them down. To test this, she divided 267 people into two groups; these people were men and women with varied professional backgrounds. She discovered that, “…you become 42% more likely to achieve your goals and dreams, simply by writing them down on a regular basis.”
The answer to why this works involves communication between the right (creative, imaginative) and left (literal, logical) brain hemispheres. Between these two hemispheres lies a bundle of neural fibers known as the corpus callosum, which is a channel for electrical signals from the left and right brain to meet. These signals move into the fluid around your brain and into your spinal column. These signals move throughout our body and into our consciousness which enables us to make thoughts and ideas reality.
If you were to just think about your goals, you will only be using your right brain hemisphere. But, when you write your goals and wishes down, you are tapping into your literal, logical left-brain hemisphere as well. As explained in the Huffington Post article, The Power of Writing Down Your Goals And Dreams, “Just the act of writing down your dreams and goals ignites an entirely new dimension of consciousness, ideas and productivity to the powerhouse that is your subconscious mind.”
Vividly Describe Your Wishes When You Write Them Down
In a research study led by LeadershipIQ, 4,690 men and women were asked to fill out a 26 – item questionnaire in regards to their personal and professional goal-setting process. It was found that people who vividly describe their goals in written form are 1.2 to 1.4 times more likely to accomplish their goals.
The neuroscientific explanation for these findings involves external storage – writing something down and storing it on an external, tangible, easy to access piece of paper allows you to review it at any time. This serves as a visual cue which you can place in a particular location so you can be reminded everyday of your wish or goal.
The other neuroscientific element is encoding. When we perceive something, that information goes to the area of the brain known as the hippocampus, where it is analyzed. It is then decided which information gets stored in our long-term memory and what gets disposed of. Writing something down strengthens the encoding process, giving it a higher chance of being remembered.
According neuropsychologists there is also a “generation effect” occurring when you write down your goals and wishes. This effect states that people have better memory for information they generated, as opposed to information that they simply read. Writing down goals and wishes exposes one to this effect twice – first when you have the idea of the goal or wish, and secondly when you write it down. As you write it down you are regenerating the goal again. When you vividly describe the wish or goal or add pictures there is extra cognitive processing at play which embeds them deeply in your mind. This makes for easier recall, and the easier the recall the more you will remember to work towards your goals and wishes daily.
If you don’t do it already, it’s a great time to sit down and write down your dreams and goals in lots of luscious detail. It’s up to 50% more likely that they’ll come true just in this simple and fun daydreaming list-making!
